Tuesday 8th March.

50 Day Countdown – Only 7 more weekends until Halow250 No. 9

Are you ready?

Things you need to know at this stage….

Friday 29th April – Day 1. Start at The Alexander Pope – a cracking hotel/pub in Twickenham. (Cross Deep, Twickenham TW1 4RB; https://www.alexanderpope.co.uk) – The lovely team at Youngs will be providing a delicious breakfast too. You will need to be signing the register at 8am and we will be getting the show on the road at 9am sharp. Make sure you have sorted your travel to the start (with bike) early!

We then will cycle 85 miles on Day 1. , 110 (ish) Day 2 in France – and the balance on the Sunday from Portsmouth to Merry Harriers/Clock Barn. That’s a lot of miles over 3 days.

Please make sure you have enough miles in the legs before the event. The slower you cycle the less time you’ll have to fuel up plus we will have tight timings to cope with border and Covid controls and any event organiser decisions to change the route throughout the weekend will be met with cheerful acceptance!

We can’t wait for the 29th – it has been a long time coming.

If you need help on training, preparation or any advice on the ride please get in touch with us at 2Boats Events.

Halow250 2022 – Travel Information

Monday 28th February

Its 8 weeks to go before the trip – EIGHT doesn’t feel like a big number…

With that in mind here are some notes on the ‘travel to France bit’.

COVID. We can’t avoid the fact that Covid is still having an impact on the event. Once we get to the ferry port French/European regs will be in place. This could mean masks, social distancing so please be prepared for that.

We will be keeping a close watch on the French travel regs – you can see them here Gov.uk travel advice. In summary – as we are traveling from the UK you will need to be fully vaccinated..and you may need to complete an EU Locator Form. Luckily the NHS app is recognised in France as proof. https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/

Currently its ‘masks on’ in all public spaces on the ferry; luckily the bar will still be open although the buffet restaurant is shut. It’s down to the self-service for all!

BREXIT. Getting ourselves in and out of La Belle France was not exactly smooth even when we were in the same club. As outsiders it is likely to be even more time consuming and admin heavy.

Top of the list is to check your passport is in date and has at an expiry date no less than 3 months after we travel. PLUS no more than 10 years old.

We expect to be subjected to far more scrutiny at the port – checking belongings, paperwork…even making sure that we are not trying to import goods. This will add to the timing pressure and might result in the route being shortened or slow riders being swept up early. We will all need to keep calm and do all we can to keep the event functioning smoothly.

GENERAL. We will be closely monitoring this as the regulations will fluctuate for good or bad in the next 8 weeks. If you have any questions or concerns please get in touch.
